Colorado Social Work License Requirements

Everything you need to know about the Colorado Social Work License Requirements for a provisional license or original license by examination. SWP (Provisional License)

  • For individuals working solely for a Residential Child Care Facility (RCF)

LSW (Original License by Examination)

  • Must hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW)
  • Requires passage of the ASWB Intermediate, Clinical or Advanced Generalist exam
  • May be obtained for completing the required two years of post-degree supervised experience before applying for LCSW

LCSW/CSW (Original License by Examination)

  • Must hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW)
  • For applicants obtaining licensure at the highest, independent level as a “first-timer”
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam (requires ASWB Clinical or Advanced Generalist exam) and Post-Degree hours

LSW/CSW (Original License by Endorsement)

  • Must hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW)
  • For applicants licensed as a social worker in another state (level must be equivalent to CO level license)
