New Mexico Social Work License Requirements

LBSW

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) (must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam (requires ASWB Clinical and Advanced Generalist exam)
  • Three-Credit Hour Course in New Mexico Cultures or comparable
  • Subject to Continuing Education (CE) requirements
  • Subject to 30 hours of Continuing Education (CE) requirements biennially

LMSW or LISW

  • Must hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) or a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) (must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam (requires ASWB Clinical and Advanced Generalist exam)
  • Three-Credit Hour Course in New Mexico Cultures or comparable
  • Complete a minimum of 3,600 hours of post graduate social work experience and 90 hours of supervision which has been accumulated over no more than a 60-month period and cannot be completed in less than two years
  • At least one hour of supervision must be documented for every 40 hours worked
  • Subject to 30 hours of Continuing Education (CE) requirements biennially
