South Carolina Social Work Licensure Requirements

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW)(must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam

Licensed Master Social Work

License Independent Social Work – Clinical Practice

  • Must hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW)(must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam (Clinical Level)
  • 45 academic contact hours or 20 continuing education contact hours in professional ethics (during supervision)
  • Completion of 3,000 hours of social work practice under clinical supervision including 100 hours of face-to-face meetings with the supervisor

License Independent Social Work – Advanced Practice

  • Must hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW)(must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam (Advanced Generalist Level)
  • 45 academic contact hours or 20 continuing education contact hours in professional ethics (during supervision)
  • Completion of 3,000 hours of social work practice under clinical supervision including 100 hours of face-to-face meetings with the supervisor
