Utah Social Work License Requirements

View the Utah Social Work License requirements for roles including Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Social & Certified Service Worker.Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

  • Must hold a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) or a Doctor of Social Work (must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam (requires ASWB Clinical and Advanced Generalist exam)
  • 4,000 hours of clinical social work and mental health therapy training over a two-year period (1,000 hours must be supervised practice in mental health therapy with no less than 100 hours of directly supervised practice)

Social Service Worker (SSW)

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW)  (must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam

Certified Service Worker (CSW)

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW)  (must be CSWE-accredited)
  • Must have completed ASWB Exam (requires ASWB Clinical and Advanced Generalist exam)
  • For applicants with a bachelor’s degree not in social work: 2,000 hours of supervised qualifying experience under the supervision of a mental health therapist and three semester hours in social welfare policy, human growth and development, and social work practice methods
